Building Awareness on Climate Action and Food
- The project titled "Building Awareness on Climate Action and Food" seeks to address issues of climate change and food insecurity through educational initiatives. These initiatives started since January 2022 by volunteering activities and expanded as day goes on. By involving schools and integrating climate change adaptation strategies, the project aims to create sustainable solutions for food security, health, and environmental conservation. The initiative emphasizes inclusivity by engaging both pupils with and without disabilities, thus promoting a sense of community and equality
The project targets 200 pupils from five integrated primary schools in the Geita region, Tanzania. This includes 100 pupils with disabilities and 100 pupils without disabilities. The broader impact extends to the school communities and their families.
The key activities outlined in the project include:
i. Establishment of vegetable and tree gardens in school compounds.
ii. Training and seminars on various topics such as:
- Safe reproductive health and cervical cancer prevention.
- Climate change adaptation strategies.
- Human rights education.
- Gender-based violence awareness.
- Inclusive education
iii. Sensitization meetings with teachers, government officials, health specialists, and environmental activists.
iv. Monitoring and evaluation to assess progress and impact
Impacts of the project include:
- Planting 50,000 trees in schools and health centers, contributing to climate action and environmental sustainability.
- Improved health through access to balanced diets from school vegetable gardens.
- Increased awareness on key cross-cutting issues such as climate change, human rights, and gender-based violence, with 75% awareness improvement.
- Poverty reduction by teaching families and communities how to establish home vegetable gardens, contributing to food security and income generation
Scaling the project to include more schools and communities, expanding both the scope of awareness and the number of beneficiaries.
Securing additional funding to ensure long-term sustainability of the initiative and its impacts on climate action, food security, and inclusivity
